Saving Money on Groceries and other Purchases

The holidays are approaching. That means more added expenses than a typical month and searching for ways to save even more money to be able to afford a little treat or two during the holidays.

Here are some articles geared toward saving money other than by clipping coupons. I found some good tips here! Hope you will too.

Save Big without Clipping Couponson Groceries

9 Smart Warehouse Club Shopping Strategies
You might already know a lot of these strategies, but just in case. My favorite one is that BJ's accepts regular coupons on top of their own coupons they offer. You can get some good buys this way. The only stipulation is that the item has to be packaged individually. For example, a bulk box of granola bars or cereal has to have the same type of quantity packaging as the coupon within the bulk box. Say, two or more smaller boxes inside the bulk packaging. This can be a hit or miss kind of thing.

Find your Grocery Deals by State

Long list of ideas to save money on groceries (maybe there is new valuable nugget here for someone)

Here are few tips I have found very helpful recently.

Buy dried beans when you can - they are cheaper and more healthy than canned.

To make a meal with ground beef go farther, add kidney beans when it will blend with your recipe. We do this with chili and anything mexican. Even my pickiest eater loves them and they are healthier than eating all of that meat.

Walmart and other stores readily accept competitor coupons, as long as they are on a specific item. (sometimes if it is money off your entire purchase - it depends on the store and the wording on the coupon)

Some grocery stores mark down their meat items near the end of the day, so if you go shopping in the evening, you might grab some great deals in the meat section that earlier in the day were still full price. We keep a freezer to put these in.

Walmart has a day old bread rack in the back of the store that you can peruse in the afternoon/evening with items that are still fresh and can be eaten that night or the next day or frozen. These are marked down generally by 40%-50%.

I hope you have found these articles and tips helpful!
