Money Mistakes and Ways to Save More

We've all asked the question at one time or another- "Which and how much should take priority at a certain time, saving or paying down debt?" With that usually comes the questions of investing and in what should we invest. At the moment, I'm not going to address that question, because it appears no one at the moment really can give you any reasonably sound advice as to where to put your money with the erratic stock exchange. It seems to be a guessing game at the moment. So we're just going to look at money in hand right now.

Here is a good article about 10 Common Money Mistakes.

We're also always looking for ways to save and spend less money. Some of these tips may come too late for this Christmas shopping season, but you may want to keep them in mind for the new year. I try to pick up Christmas presents sporadically through the year when I see something that would be perfect for a relative, and it doesn't hurt that it is on sale or clearance at the time. You've also probably heard that certain types of items are on sale during specific months of the year, as well. And, of course, there are always those after Christmas sales where you even if you don't want to think about next Christmas, you can pick up your cards, wrap, and other accessories for half or a quarter of the original price. I like to do this not just to save money, but while my inventory of supplies is fresh in my head, I know that I won't be caught by surprise next Christmas and I can store these items when I put all of my Christmas items away for the year.

Here is another good article about 30 Ways to Spending Less and Saving More.

And if you are wondering what in life is free that you might already be paying for when you don't have to, I have found this neat article with some good tips as to where to go for "free checking", "free information calls", or "free scholarship search websites" at Ten Things People Buy They Should Get Free.

Save with Dollar Tree Online

Dollar Tree has an online website where you can get your favorite dollar items online and shipped to a store near you for free pickup! A lot of these items have to be purchased in bulk to receive the $1 per item price, but Dollar Tree has now lowered the minimum quanitity needed to purchase on over 600 items!

And, on those items that require you to purchase 12 or more, you can always find friends and relatives that may want to split the case with you.

They have items that are exclusively only found in their catalog as well.

So check it out here http://www.dollartree.com/home.jsp

Saving Money on Groceries and other Purchases

The holidays are approaching. That means more added expenses than a typical month and searching for ways to save even more money to be able to afford a little treat or two during the holidays.

Here are some articles geared toward saving money other than by clipping coupons. I found some good tips here! Hope you will too.

Save Big without Clipping Couponson Groceries

9 Smart Warehouse Club Shopping Strategies
You might already know a lot of these strategies, but just in case. My favorite one is that BJ's accepts regular coupons on top of their own coupons they offer. You can get some good buys this way. The only stipulation is that the item has to be packaged individually. For example, a bulk box of granola bars or cereal has to have the same type of quantity packaging as the coupon within the bulk box. Say, two or more smaller boxes inside the bulk packaging. This can be a hit or miss kind of thing.

Find your Grocery Deals by State

Long list of ideas to save money on groceries (maybe there is new valuable nugget here for someone)

Here are few tips I have found very helpful recently.

Buy dried beans when you can - they are cheaper and more healthy than canned.

To make a meal with ground beef go farther, add kidney beans when it will blend with your recipe. We do this with chili and anything mexican. Even my pickiest eater loves them and they are healthier than eating all of that meat.

Walmart and other stores readily accept competitor coupons, as long as they are on a specific item. (sometimes if it is money off your entire purchase - it depends on the store and the wording on the coupon)

Some grocery stores mark down their meat items near the end of the day, so if you go shopping in the evening, you might grab some great deals in the meat section that earlier in the day were still full price. We keep a freezer to put these in.

Walmart has a day old bread rack in the back of the store that you can peruse in the afternoon/evening with items that are still fresh and can be eaten that night or the next day or frozen. These are marked down generally by 40%-50%.

I hope you have found these articles and tips helpful!
